Well done! Chippy is spot on! (and correct on the ownership too).
According to our records, Highland Night is one of only 3 horses to win the Gold Cup consecutively (What Next won in 1940 & 1941 and Chez Monty won it in 1949 and 1950).
Other dual winners are Humidor (1933 & 1935) and Cuff Link (1965 and 1967), but they did not win it consecutively.
i always thought aquanaut did too. must have been the gold cup gold bowl double then
Hi Digby, no sorry Aquanaut didn’t win a Gold Cup double. He contested the race four times (1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990 finishing 1st, 5th, 9th and 5th respectively). He did win the Gold Cup and Gold Bowl double in 1987 as you correctly stated, and he also won the Gold Bowl for a second time in 1988 (as well as finishing in the money again in 1989). He was a wonderful stayer!
