Highveld Stakes – 4Racing Clarify Position

This was advised in November 2021

Following enquiries from certain Gauteng stakeholders over concerns of stakes reductions, the Sporting Post approached 4Racing for clarity on the stakes situation and the pending changes.

We were reminded that the 4Racing fixtures and stakes strategy for 2022 was released to all stakeholders in November 2021.

This saw stakes increased from R186 million in 2021 to R207 million in 2022, structured as an in and out of season arrangement to encourage the movement of horses between the major centres.

Amidst declining tote revenues and a business in business rescue, the 4Racing stakes commitment for 2022 was R30 million more than would have been delivered by the previous stakes agreement between the Racing Operator and the Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) for the three racing regions in 2022.

As stated, this was communicated widely and also via a 4racing press release sent out on 19 November 2021, and a subsequent release sent out on 22 November 2021.
