Heavy At Fairview Today

First race is off at 11h25

The last meeting of the season in the Eastern Cape takes place on a heavy Fairview turf track today and nine races are carded.

Trainer Alan Greeff is two winners behind Hollywoodbets-sponsored trainer Gavin Smith heading into this meeting.

There are two feature races including Listed Port Elizabeth Gold Cup and the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup. The first is due off at 11h25.

Heathcliff from the Alan Greeff stable takes his place in the Listed Port Elizabeth Gold Cup. He was an easy winner of his last start over 2700m on this course. He was bumped leaving the start but ran on well and won with a ton in hand.

The son of Canford Cliffs settles well in his races and should have no issues with the rise to 3200m. Jockey Richard Fourie retains the ride from his good draw of three and he should notch up his fifth career victory.

Hollywoodbets-sponsored trainer Gavin Smith sends out Eyjafjallajokull in Race 8.

He has produced two encouraging efforts since relocating to the Eastern Cape. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was awkwardly placed in the latter stages.

The son of Erupt should enjoy the longer run-in on the turf and with a bit of luck in running, he may be the one to beat.
