Mike de Kock’s colt Hawwaam is in fine fettle for Saturday’s Gr2 Premier Trophy to be run over 1800m at Kenilworth.
The Mike de Kock racing website reports that the 4yo arrived in Cape Town last week and is stabled at Milnerton in Mathew de Kock’s care.
Mathew commented: “He wasn’t intended to run this Saturday, it’s a new race on our radar but considering the cards we were dealt he’s taken everything very well and he’s enjoying Milnerton.
“We took him to Kenilworth for a gallop, he put up a good piece of work, he was relaxed and liked the track. So all the signs are there that he travelled well and looks good.
“Now, we go to Saturday’s race and we’re hoping it’s a good experience for him which will put him in a good space for the Queen’s Plate.”
Hawwaam is at odds on with Hollywoodbets and looks to be the obvious popular Pick 6 banker. With the injection of a R500 000 carryover, the exotic is expected to reach R5 million.
The Pick 6 starts in the fourth at 14h32.
There are nine races on the card – the first is off at 12h45.
The Premier Trophy is the sixth race on the card – off time is 15h45.
Interestingly, the Cape Guineas (race 7 off at 16h30) hosts a Trifecta carryover of R200 000 and the pool is expected to reach R600 000.
