The 2019 /20 Cape Breeders Awards were broadcast live on Tellytrack on Sunday evening.

The awards acknowledged the performance of Cape-bred athletes over the season past, and unlike the Equus Awards took only performances up to 31 July 2020 into account.

Mike de Kock’s exported Silvano colt Hawwaam was crowned Horse Of The Year, in addition  to picking up the Champion Older Male and Champion Middle Distance awards.

His dam Halfway To Heaven was again Broodmare Of The Year, while the star’s breeders Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein were the joint Outstanding Breeders Of The Year.

The International Horse award was made not for racing but for the progeny of Alexandra Rose, who produced Oleksandra, winner of the Gr1 Jaipir Stakes in July.
