Barend Vorster’s first trip to Swan Hill, a city in the northwest of Victoria, Australia, has been a fruitful one, with the former Gauteng rider saluting in the Bet365 Swan Hill Cup aboard the Tony McEvoy trained Tan Tat Trusting on Sunday.

Vorster, who rode in Queensland on Saturday, coursed deep on Tan Tat Trusting and fought back strongly late to defeat Guizot with Curragh third.
“It doesn’t matter where in the world, at the end of the day, you come and ride in a country and a place like this, where the passion for racing is so big and I’m really enjoying it,” he said.
“Seeing people having a passion for racing and horses like this, Tony brings them here in perfect condition, he gave me a beautiful ride and he fought on well the last bit.”
Vorster recently made the move to join the McEvoy stable in South Australia after many years in Singapore.
Victory aboard Tan Tat Trusting was the experienced jockey’s 34th win since arriving in Australia and he is operating at a strike rate of 30% for McEvoy.
Tan Tan Trusting was always wide through the run but that never bothered Vorster.
“I was actually happy with the wide gate, looking at the track I thought they weren’t making up much ground Tony reminded me just before the race to keep it in mind,” he said.
“He began so well, and I was able to put him up there and through the 800m I just let him use his action and use his motion. The horse on the outside (Guizot) joined me, I thought he had me but mine really dug deep and was so impressive.”
