Guineas Day – Sandringham Summit Takes On Purple Pitcher

Final fields for Guineas Day 2024 were declared on Tuesday as we count the days down to the start of 4Racing’s The Championships Season at Turffontein on Saturday.

The individual sex Guineas features kickstart the SA Triple Crown and Triple Tiara series.

David Nieuwenhuizen star Sandringham Summit makes a welcome return to action in the TAB Gr2 Gauteng Guineas after inclement weather delayed his anticipated programme in the Got The Greenlight Stakes earlier this month.

The race was run a week later than carded, and this was felt to be too close to Saturday’s engagement.

Sandringham Summit, who now runs in the familiar Varsfontein Stud silks after being syndicated for stud, last ran on Betway Summer Cup day when beaten into third behind Purple Pitcher and Gimmeanotherchance in the Jonsson Workwear Gr Dingaans.

Trainer Robyn Klaasen will fancy the chances of Purple Pitcher, despite his wide draw.

The son of New Predator has won five on the trot since shedding his maiden in August.

Mike de Kock holds a power-packed five strong hand in the Wilgerbosdrift Gr2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas, headed by recent Mike de Kock Gr2 Ipi Tombe Stakes winner Gimme A Nother, who is unbeaten in four starts and looks very special.

Summerveld-based Robbie Hill is the only visiting trainer to take his chances, and  is represented in both features.
