SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that star striker Bradley Grobler will be side-lined for an extended period following a serious injury.
The injury, sustained during the club’s MTN8 Cup match against Orlando Pirates in the first week of the 2024/25 season, forced Grobler to be substituted early in the game.
Initially, the decision appeared to be a precaution, but the situation was worse than expected.
Speaking to SuperSport, Hunt revealed the severity of Grobler’s injury, stating, “No, Bradley will be out for, I would think, four to five months. It’s a serious injury, but it’s a huge blow to us.
“We just wish him well and hope he recovers well. He just had the surgery.”
Grobler, who has netted 112 goals in the PSL, was on the brink of making history by becoming the league’s all-time top goal scorer.
However, this latest setback means that his pursuit of that record will be delayed as he focuses on his recovery over the next few months.
SuperSport are now faced with the challenge of starting their Betway Premiership campaign without their leading striker.
They are set to face Mamelodi Sundowns on 17 September at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, a match that will test their resilience without Grobler in the line-up.
