The Greyville track is expected to bounce back from a disastrous start to the 2018 SA Champions Season a fortnight ago.
The Drill Hall Stakes and the Daisy Guineas and Fillies Guineas were run on an inadequately prepared turf track – which led to racing operator Gold Circle apologising unreservedly to the racing public and stakeholders.
Assurances were issued at the time that the track would receive urgent attention before this Saturday’s Gr2 WSB 1900 meeting.
Track manager Kurt Grunewald said that 54mm of rain had fallen this week and that further rain was forecast for Friday.
After Justin Snaith galloped Oh Susanna and Copper Force in midweek, Grunewald was pleased with how the track had stood up.
“Saturday is forecast to be clear and fortunately the turf races are the last four on the card. So the track has time to dry,” he said.
The programme is split 50/50 poly / turf, with the first on the grass off at 14h35.
An internal inquiry was opened by Gold Circle into the circumstances regarding the preparation of the track for the 4 May meeting.
