Harry’s Son flies in on morning of the race

A typically high quality nationally representative field of fifteen will line up for the R1 million Grand Parade Gr1 Cape Guineas to be run over a mile at Kenilworth on Saturday 20 December.

The race showcases the much anticipated clash between Joey Ramsden’s local Dynasty star Act Of War and the KZN-based Equus champion, Harry’s Son, who had the wind knocked out his sails in the Gr2 Dingaans on Summer Cup day by the longshot Unparalleled.

Ramsden’s charge has drawn 2 while the Australian-bred Harry’s Son pulled a 7 draw.

Bernard Fayd’herbe rides Act Of War

There was much speculation as to who would ride Act Of War after Anton Marcus declared himself unavailable in view of his thumb injury. Bernard Fayd’herbe will be a very capable stand-in as the Arc En Ciel-bred bids for his sixth straight win.

Trainer Paul Lafferty is expected to bring Harry’s Son to Cape Town by air on the morning of the race and he won’t have any concerns over heavy going – a factor that was given as a contributing factor for his horse’s recent Turffontein defeat.

Sean Tarry has not drawn too well with his smart undefeated Trippi colt Zambezi River who banked the big money in the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes in late November.

S’manga Khumalo returns from Hong Kong to partner the smart colt and he could be the dark horse in the race.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
