One Fine Day – has shown plenty of good ability

Mike De Kock’s Trippi filly One Fine Day looks set to come into her own as a late 3yo after she scored her first stakes victory in fine style when winning the R150 000 Gr3 Umzimkhulu Stakes run over 1400m at Greyville on Friday evening.

The beautiful Drakenstein-bred bay scored Gr1 places, including a terrific second to champion colt AfrIkaburn in the Gr1 Golden Horseshoe, as a 2yo and could make her presence felt in the forthcoming Champions Season features.

She hardly broke into a sweat after being produced by Anthony Delpech at the 350m marker down the middle to beat Silver Class easily.

The field was disappointing as only six 3yo fillies turned up to do battle.

Corne Spies’ Fire Dancing led Seattle Lady and Future Fantastic, with Silver Class just ahead of One Fine Day and Alexis at the rear.

Into the straight One Fine Day always looked a likely winner and she powered home strongly to an emphatic win.

Starting a popular 14-10 favourite One Fine Day came home comfortably to win by a length in a time of 84,78 secs.

Silver Class stayed on well for second, ahead of Alexis, who battled to get going but got into her stride late.

The pacemaking Fire Dancing refused to lie down and ran a commendable 2,25 lengths fourth after galloping in front and coming back for more.

One Fine Day only arrived at the De Kock KZN base on Thursday evening from Gauteng, and looked in great shape in the preliminaries.

One Fine Day has won 3 races with 6 places from 10 starts for stakes of R436 375.

She was bred by Drakenstein Stud (who also race her) and is by Trippi out of the Kingmambo mare Peace Bell, who hails from the family of former leading SA sire Rakeen.
