Sprinkles Takes The Cake

Kennedy and Peter team up for more feature success

The Elusive Fort filly Sprinkles put her hand up as a potential contender for the SA Triple Tiara series when she took the step up to win the R200 000 Gr3 Three Troikas Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.

After an eyecatching third, with excuses, in the Gr3 Fillies Mile last month, Sprinkles was easy to back at 6-1 and delivered a superb late run down the outside to hold off a late challenge by Eternity Ring (12-1) by 0,75 lengths in a time of 85,67 secs.

Topweight and Gr1 winner Rain In Holland (3-1) had the blinkers fitted but failed to kick and finished a further 1,50 lengths away in third.

Corne Spies star Supreme Quest (2-1 favourite) looked dangerous late in the race, but did not really go on with it and ran fourth.

Jockey Warren Kennedy said he was pleasantly surprised by Sprinkles’ effort.

“She needs a bit more strengthening up, she’s quite a leggy and has plenty of improvement to come,” he added.

Assistant Tony Peter confirmed that Sprinkles is still mentally immature.

He thanked part owners Laurence Wernars and Harry Wilson who bought into the chestnut. Cape breeder Spencer Cook and the Hyperpaint Syndicate are the other partners.

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, the winner is a daughter of Elusive Fort (Fort Wood) out of the three-time winning  (with fourteen placed efforts!) Tiger Ridge mare, Jin-Go-Lo-Ba.

Sprinkles is the 15th stakes winner for Elusive Fort, whose G1 Vodacom Durban July winning son Kommetdieding is a runner in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth next weekend.

A R50 000 BSA Cape Yearling Sale graduate, Sprinkles was recording her first stakes success and took her stakes tally to R255 125 with her third win and 2 places from 5 starts.
