Great Double For Delpech-Kannemeyer

Daughter of Trippi wins a cracker

Dean Kannemeyer has forged a powerful winning partnership with his major patron Khaya Stables over the years and he saddled yet another feature winner in the yellow and black when Real Princess opened her stakes account in style to win the R250 000 Gr3 Poinsettia Stakes at Scottsville on Sunday.

Real Princess and Anthony Delpech lead the charge

The in-form Kannemeyer notched a feature double on the afternoon and was fresh off the National Yearling Sale last week where Khaya Stable’s Lady Christine Laidlaw secured him the sale’s top lot – yet another beautiful  Trippi filly.

And the good Lady’s pursuit of high quality breeding stock gained momentum with the classy Real Princess scoring an overdue first stakes win in a high quality field that included Gr1 winners.

Anthony Delpech had Real Princess near last for much of the trip as Victoria Lavelle, Cosmic Light and Free State cut out the pace.

At the 500m marker Real Princess was still last as Victoria Lavelle and Free State went hard.

Going into the 200m the Kannemeyer filly still had two lengths to find but she was lifting and the super talented Delpech had timed her effort to perfection.

Real Princess powered on strongly up the outside to catch and beat another Trippi in Lanner Falcon.

The winning margin was 0.25 lengths and she covered the 1200m in 68.52 seconds.

Lanner Falcon was not disgraced in second, while the 3yo’s Victoria Lavelle and Free State ran absolute cracking races.

Glen Kotzen’s Princess Royal loomed wide out but failed to kick, finishing 3 lengths off. She must not be written off.

Real Princess was bred by Klawervlei Stud and is a daughter of Trippi out of the one-time winning mare Pagan Princess.

She is certainly a valuable broodmare prospect with this first splash of black type and looks to have bigger fish to fry in the forthcoming KZN Season.

She has now won 5 races from 6 places and 14 starts and took her stakes tally to R508 025 in the process.

She was no cheapie and was bought for R2,7 million on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1.

Real Princess enjoys this course and we should see her back for the City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint next month.
