De Kock’s Alileo Some Value

Lightly raced Captain Al filly may be worth including

Behaviour will be key to Myfunyvalentine’s prospects of lifting the honours in the R250 000 Gr3 Magnolia Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday.

The rather errant raceday antics of the daughter of Captain Al have cost her backers plenty – but she can run when not distracted. She got within 2,75 lengths of Spring Wonder over the course and distance last time and with a 3,5kg swing at the weights, could resume her overdue winning ways.

Alileo hails from a powerful in-form yard

Mike de Kock’s Alileo is another promising daughter of Captain Al who enjoys a weight pull with Spring Wonder –  and she could be better over the shorter trip than her immediate form suggests. Grant van Niekerk partners her off a handy 52kgs.

Talktothestars’ full sister Lady Starlett comes down in trip after fair places but it is of come concern that she was reported to be not striding out last time.

Kilauea is obscured as Chase Mauujean gets Alexa up on the line

Kilauea gets the blinkers on as she drops in trip after winning over a mile last time. She is quite decent on her day but finished 10 lengths behind Green Pepper in this race last year and is better over slightly further.

My Friend Lee is 3 lengths better off with Spring Wonder for a 4 length beating over the course and distance at her last start. This may be a bit sharp for her.

Shivering Sea is another who is 3kgs better off with Spring Wonder for the same race – except that the daughter of Captain Al was only 2,50 lengths off the Paul Peter flyer. A decent multiple course and distance winner on her day, she is worth including in all bets.

Ryan Munger partners with recent sensational Gardenia Stakes winner Queen Laurie , who strips fit after her top win under lights. She can go in again.

La Bella Mia beat High Seas Beauty over the course and distance last time but steps up in class and needs to show she can follow up.

The well-travelled 4yo Favour’s Pride has her 44th start on Saturday and is another who brings a fistful of speed into play. She is always thereabouts.

Anthony Delpech rides Spring Wonder

Anthony Delpech partners recent multiple course and distance winner Spring Wonder. The daughter of Querari is top drawer on her day and she must go into calculations.

The very fast Great Britain filly Wrecking Ball is a class act over this straight track and while she carries topweight, must have a reasonable chance of earning. She has won 5 from 18 starts and showed some resolution at her prep in October.

Varsity Girl ran on steadily for a not disgraced fifth in the Starling Stakes. She won her maiden over Saturday’s course and distance with a blistering show of pace and could certainly find place money.

Arissa has her first run in 37 weeks and could need it.

Daring Diva has weak recent form and looks unlikely.

A tough race and Spring Wonder needs to show she can beat them at the swing in the weights. Alileo looks promising and Myfunnyvalentine would only need to behave herself to feature.
