Cascapedia For Met

Feature double for Delpech

Mike de Kock’s very progressive Irish-bred Cascapedia won Sunday’s R250 000 Gr3 London News Stakes at Turffontein and looks to have booked herself a supplementary entry into the R5 million Sun Met to be run on 27 January.

The 4yo, who is six months behind most of her rivals as she is Northern Hemisphere bred, produced an outstanding performance in a decent quality field that included 2016 SA Triple Crown star, Abashiri. The latter coincidentally has been scratched from the Met.

Relaxed early as The Elmo Effect, Amsterdam and Girl On The Run showed the way, Cascapedia was going so well early in the home straight that Anthony Delpech had little choice but to send her for home.

She picked it up, lengthened her stride and drew off to beat the late finishing Abashiri by 1,40 lengths in a time of 111,20 secs.

This rounded off a great feature double for Delpech.

Coral Fever, as consistent as ever, kept on late to follow up on his Summer Cup third placing with yet another place cheque.

Both winning trainer and jockey expressed their satisfaction with a top-class display and the Sun Met could well be where Cascapedia lines up next.

A €170 000 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale purchase by Form Bloodstock, Cascapedia has won 5 of her 6 starts for 1 place and stakes of  R461 850.

A daughter of High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), Cascapedia was bred by Tipperary based Camas Park Stud and is out of the unraced Dansili mare Janoubi. The latter is a half-sister to dams and grandams of graded stakes performers in the UK & France and hails from the female line of champion Al Bahathri.

Sun Met supplementary entries close at 11h00 on Monday 8 January.
