Multiple SA champion jockey Piere Strydom returns from Mauritius to partner recent Track & Ball Derby winner Roy Had Enough for Frank Robinson in the R1,25 million Gr3 Gold Cup to be run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Super Saturday.
The top jock, disillusioned with a lack of support from local trainers, took up a three month contract with the Rameshwar Gujadhur yard in Mauritius in May.
He has ridden 9 winners to date at a 23% win strike-rate.
Strydom has only held the coveted Gold Cup, South Africa’s premier marathon, once – that in 2005 when he won the then R500 000 Gr1 Canon Gold Cup on the Brett Crawford trained Reveille Boy in the familiar Sabine Plattner silks.
His mount Roy Had Enough snuck into the July courtesy of a good win in the Track & Ball Derby and then ran a fair race for seventh and 2,75 lengths behind Do It Again in the big race.
