PE ‘July’ Attracts National Interest

Sean Tarry – good winners at Turffontein last Saturday – now tries PE

Champion trainer Sean Tarry has nominated two runners for the R350 000 Betting World Algoa Cup over 2000m at Fairview on Sunday 25 October.

Tarry has entered Orchestrated and Stonehenge for the biggest open race in Eastern Cape, which is due to be raced on the turf track.

Stonehenge is a two-time winner from 11 starts but the son of Seventh Rock has run a 2.25-length second behind Vodacom Durban July favourite Legal Eagle in the Listed Derby Trial over 2000m at Turffontein, so he will get the distance.

Readytogorightnow

Readytogorightnow – former Winter Guineas winner

Orchestrated has run well on both turf and sand so even if rain forces the race to be moved to the Polytrack this son of Jay Peg would be a contender. The five-year-old gelding is a four-time winner.

As has been the case before the Western Cape trainers have supported this event with Justin Snaith nominating eight runners. Among them are Krambambuli and Readytogorightnow who finished first and second respectively at Durbanville on Saturday.

Among the balance of Snaith’s entry are Astro News, Current Event and Masterly.

Mike Bass

Mike Bass – Mountain Master tries Fairview

The Mike Bass yard has entered Mountain Master who finished 5.90 lengths behind Krambambuli on Saturday.

Andre Nel, who recently took over the role as trainer for Sabine Plattner, has nominated Ma Choix, who will always have a special place in his heart. Ma Choix won at Durbanville last Wednesday and was Nel’s first winner as a trainer.

Glen Kotzen has a yard in Port Elizabeth and Political Playboy is a regular in Eastern Cape fields. However, Gone Baby Gone has been based in Cape Town and he has been entered for this event. He ran in Race 5 over 1300m, a distance well short of his best, at Durbanville on Saturday and ran well enough to finish sixth, just 5.30 lengths behind Spirit Of Hamilton.

The local challenge is likely to be spearheaded by the very in-form Gogetthesheriff and Kalamain, who fought out the finish of the main race at Fairview on Friday. Gogetthesheriff won the duel by 0.75 lengths.

Supplementary entries close at 9am on Thursday with declarations at 10am on Tuesday 20 October.
