Anything To Beat Her?

Five from five for daughter of Var

The 2019/20 Equus Champion 2yo filly Anything Goes confirmed trainer Stuart Pettigrew’s boundless confidence and showed that she is an exciting prospect again this term when she made it five from five and swept to an easy victory in Saturday’s R150 000 Gr2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge at Turffontein.

With regular pilot Diego De Gouveia aboard – he has ridden the daughter of Var in all her starts – Anything Goes was given a patient ride on the rail about five lengths off leader Mill Queen, and when given the signal by De Gouveia changed legs and stretched away as she stormed to a facile three length victory in a time of 87,97 secs  – faster than De Kock’s also unbeaten Mount Pleasant, and carrying 2,5kgs more than her male counterpart.

In second place was Magic School (17-2), with Mount Laurel (5-1) back in third.

This was Anything Goes first start as a 3yo and her first taking on her elders.

She  was never troubled from the pole position draw.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud. Anything Goes, a R275 000 buy from the 2019 National Yearling Sale, was a another big winner  for Avontuur-based Var (Forest Wildcat).

Anything Goes is the second graded stakes winner produced by the unplaced Parade Leader mare Dance Domain.

The latter, also dam of exported Gr3 Sea Cottage Stakes winner Green Laser, is a half-sister to five stakes horses – most notably multiple Gr1 winner and present day sire, Equus Champion, Capetown Noir.

Unbeaten in five starts, Anything Goes has banked R419 125.

The sky looks the limit for Anything Goes!
