Top Win! Whiteline Fever (Raymond Danielson) streaks clear to win the Hawaii Stakes

The Daytona Stud bred Whiteline Fever bounced back fighting fresh after a rest to grab top honours in the R300 000 Gr2 Hawaii Stakes run over 1400m at Turffontein on Saturday. Raymond Danielson rode a terrific race to get Sean Tarry’s runner home in a keenly contested affair.

The race was a triumph for stallion Right Approach, who also sired the second horse, Approachable.

With one win in four low key runs since a fair effort behind his stablemate  Pomodoro in the Vodacom Durban July, Whiteline Fever signalled his feature aspirations with a top class win after a 91 day lay off.

He also showed again that he is more than just a pretty face, and the horse his trainer labelled ‘they don’t get more good looking than this’ now has an interesting season ahead of him.

With Link Man a little slow away, Vertical Takeoff led early from the filly Festival Of Fire and Galileo’s Destiny, with Castlethorpe and Two Tone further back.

Into the straight, Strydom made a bold forward move on Castlethorpe as Festival Of Fire came under pressure.

Danielson unleashed Whiteline Fever as Two Tone tried to go with him and Delpech got animated on Festival Of Fire.

In a desperate drive to the wire, with a few producing late challenges, Whiteline Fever stayed on strongly to win by 1 length in a time of 84.97 secs.

Approachable charged through late in a pleasing effort, while Galileo’s Destiny appeared outpaced in the run to the line and only got going late for third to save place accumalator punters.

The Cape challenge did not flatter, with Castlethorpe being aggressively ridden by Piere Strydom, before hitting a brick wall late in the straight to finish out of the money.

He finished just ahead of his stablemate Captain’s Secret, who never showed, while Snaith’s Changingoftheguard ran stone last.

Link Man kicked late and looked dangerous for a few strides, before stopping.

Winning jockey Raymond Danielson said that Whiteline Fever was known for his penchant for running fresh: “ He won this really well.  I knew when I got a nice position early on the rail that he would be a big runner. I sent him a bit earlier than I should have, but he was cruising and going so well,” he said.

Tarry, who had cautioned before the race that the 1400m was short of his charge’s best, but endorsed his jockey’s sentiment that he enjoyed  running fresh, was thrilled with the win.

“Training nice horses like this for guys like Chris Van Niekerk, Markus Jooste and Marsh Shirtliff is an absolute pleasure. And I honestly mean that!” he said.

Bred by Daytona Stud, Whiteline Fever is by Right Approach out of the lightly raced one time winning daughter of Sportsworld, Hockey Corner.

Whiteline Fever cost R700 000 as a yearling and registered his fifth win with 6 places, and in so doing surpassed his purchase price by R29 410.

The Horse Chestnut Stakes is apparently Whiteline Fever’s major target and one wonders whether he will now finally realise all that untapped potential. Tarry couldn’t have hoped for a better start.
