The live draw for the R600 000 Gr2 Emerald Cup to be run on 28th September at the Vaal racecourse, will be held tonight on Dstv channel 239 at approximately 19h15.
Africa’s richest race on sand has grown in stature over the years, and a bumper field of sand specialists is expected to line up.
There is also a bumper programme of supporting entertainment planned for the weekend.
Emerald Resort and Casino CEO Martin Rice says, “The Emerald Cup is traditionally one of our biggest events in our packed annual calendar. It is an opportunity for us to get together socially with the people that make us who we are.
This year sees the introduction of activities both on and off the racetrack throughout the weekend including a host of entertainment and hospitality packages which have been arranged for race day.”
Starting on Friday the 27th September on the Emerald Resort & Casino premises and continuing until Sunday, a dedicated fun park will be created to accompany the Emerald Cup. Activities and events like gladiator jousting, bungee trampolines, inflatable climbing wall and the rock wall giant slide combo will combine with an inflatable human bowling alley and carnival tents. Gates are open between 10h00 and 17h00.
Besides magnificent horse racing, picnic facilities, braai areas and onsite food options, race day/track side entertainment includes the musical talents of Mi Casa, CrashCarBurn and always a crowd pleaser – DJ Vin Deysel.
According to Rice, the artists are specifically chosen to cater to a diverse crowd that attends the Emerald Cup. It is also a great opportunity to showcase some of the extraordinary musical talent that South Africa has to offer.
Mi Casa is a house band consisting of Dr Duda, J’something and Mo-T. The album Micasa Music quickly went gold while winning several awards at the South Africa Music Awards last year. Rock band CrashCarBurn, formed in 2006, combines the musical talents of Garth, Fabian, Brendan and Etienne. They were nominated for two SAMA 2011 awards in the MTN Record of the Year and Best Engineer categories.
One of the best ways to experience the racing is by taking advantage of the track side braai sites which offer the front row racing at very affordable rates.
