Rake’s Chestnut has been entered for the Gr1 Summer Cup

Fifty-six horses have been entered for the R2-million Sansui Summer Cup (Grade 1) over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 29 November, including last season’s Triple Crown winner Louis The King.

Geoff Woodruff’s runner has won six of his nine career starts and finished third behind Vodacom Durban July winner Legislate in the Daily News 2000.

He, along with No Worries, is the second top-rated runner on the list of entries – his year-older stablemate Tellina is rated a point superior to the four-year-old. He finished third behind Yorker and another horse Woodruff has entered, Master Sabina, in last year’s Summer Cup.

Woodruff has also entered Rake’s Chestnut, second to Legislate in the Daily News 2000, Killua Castle, a close-up fifth behind Yorker in this race last year, Lockheed Jetstar, who has won his last two starts and beat more highly regarded Rake’s Chestnut in his penultimate start, Cigar Boy, Sabadell, American Storm and classy filly Touch The Sky. Seven of them are among the 20 top-rated entries.

Vodacom Durban July winning trainer Justin Snaith has four horses entered, Astro News, Run For It, Dynamic and Arion, while Kom Naidoo-trained Charity Mile winner Royal Zulu Warrior has also been entered.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
