Summer Hots Up

Gr1 R2-million Sansui Summer Cup final field

Wagner

Back for another bite. Joey Soma’s Wagner goes for the double

Tiger’s Retreat, who scored a courageous win in the Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein on Friday last week, will bid to emulate Tyson and follow up in the R2-million Sansui Summer Cup, hosted by Gauteng, over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 30 November.

The son of Tiger Ridge is one of three runners from the Sean Tarry yard who will line up in the Grade 1 race. The others are Whiteline Fever, to be ridden by Piere Strydom, and Gold Onyx, whose jockey has yet to be announced. Raymond Danielson has retained the ride on Tiger’s Retreat and they will jump from barrier No 10.

Geoff Woodruff saddles four runners – Yorker (Anton Marcus), Master Sabina (Robbie Fradd), Tellina (Glen Hatt) and Killua Castle (Richard Fourie).

Surprise winner of the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile Royal Zulu Warrior will be trying 2000m for the first time and supporters of the Australian import will be delighted to know that he’s drawn at No 4. Karl Zechner retains the ride.

Whiteline Fever shares top weight of 60kg with Wylie Hall, but while Weiho Marwing’s charge jumps from barrier No 5, Whiteline Fever is drawn No 14. There was worse news for fans of Cherry On The Top (Bernard Fayd’Herbe) as she will have to jump from No 16 draw.

There are four fillies in the field. Other than Cherry On The Top there is her half-sister, Cherry On The Cake, Jet Belle and Ilha Bela. Don’t be surprised is one of those four outdoes the boys.    Last year’s winner, Wagner, is back for a second bite of the cherry but Joey Soma’s charge is drawn wide at No 13. Muzi Yeni has the ride this year.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
