Most Open Met In Years!

Met looks wide open!

Beach Beauty

The Only Girl! Beach Beauty is the rep for the fairer sex

A bumper field of sixteen is made to fly as they line up for the Cape’s big one,the R2,5 million Gr1 J&B Met, to be run over 2000m at Kenilworth on 2 February.

While it will be disappointing for many that our current Horse Of The Year and recent L’Ormarin’s Queen’s Plate winner Variety Club will not be taking his chances, Cape Champion trainer Joey Ramsden is well represented with the only 3yo in the field King Of Pain, and a former Cape Derby winner Bravura.

Brett Crawford’s Daily News winner Jackson, who pipped Pomodoro for a flourishing second placed finish in the Queen’s Plate , take his place as one of five joint topweights. He is bound to be peaking and looks set for a huge effort.

Sean Tarry will be represented by 2012 Vodacom Durban July winner Pomodoro, who ran a cracking third in the Queen’s Plate.

SA Classic winner Slumdogmillionaire will line up, despite a disappointing effort in the Queen’s Plate. He is likely to enjoy the more testing Met trip of 2000m.

The only female in the race is Dennis Drier’s brilliant Dynasty mare Beach Beauty, who has won the Calulo Services Premier Trophy and the Gr1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes at her last two starts. She will be fit and ready to rattle the boys’ cages.

The barrier draws will be done on Thursday following the official race gallops.
