Final Met Field On Wednesday!

Cape flagship race on 29 January

There are 14 entrants left in the chase for glory and honours in the R2 million Gr1 Cape Town Met presented by World Sports Betting, as we head towards the final field announcement on Wednesday evening.

Final declarations for the Kenilworth 29 January flagship day are due by 11h00 on Wednesday, with the unveiling of the big race field to be done at an invitation only function in the late afternoon.

Racecards should be available on Thursday afternoon.

Of the 14 still in the running, seven have not accepted as yet.

Trainers have until Wednesday morning to do so and the ‘uncommitted’ list includes Sean Tarry’s 6yo entire Cirillo, who was found coughing after running downfield at Turffontein on Saturday, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate runner-up Kommetdieding, Marshall star Linebacker, Mike de Kock’s SA Triple Crown Champ Malmoos, Candice Bass-Robinson’s duo of Peninsula Handicap winner Firealley and the Gr1 pretender Marina, and Paul Matchett’s SA Triple Tiara queen War Of Athena.

War Of Athena also ran at Turffontein on Saturday and produced something of a below-par effort by her high standards, finishing a 5,25 lengths fourth behind the talented MK’s Pride a 1400m Pinnacle Stakes.

Jockey Muzi Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with the star filly. The Vet was requested to examine her and she was found to be blowing post-race.

The daughter of Act Of War’s Cape Town flight plans are confirmed and it would be a disappointment for her passionate owners and the public if she were to miss the opportunity of taking on the male big-hitters.

We hope to chat to her connections today and will revert as soon as we know anything further.
