SA Gets Behind Oratorio

Oratorio's daughter Clenor will have SA shouting her home

Clenor

Clenor and jockey Rafael Bejarano, left, hold off Nesso to win the $100,000 Surfer Girl Stakes in the first week of October at Santa Anita.

Clenor, a 2 year old daughter of Oratorio is taking on the greatest challenge of her short career tomorrow when she participates in the Gr 1 Juvenile Fillies Turf race at the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita in California . The race is over a mile and and offers a purse of $1 million.

The annual Breeder’s Cup which takes place over two days on 1 and 2 November , is one of the most glamorous events on the West Coast Racing calendar with the best horses from North America and the world, participating in a full 2-day programme of racing.

Clenor, undefeated in three starts since coming to North America, drew post 10.

Pippa Mickleburgh and her team at Avontuur, where the former Coolmore star Oratorio stands, said today that excitement was mounting for the race run in the wee hours of Saturday morning(SA Time):

“We are backing the best and wishing Clenor, jockey Rafael Bejarano and trainer Doug O’Neil all of the best on Friday for this very exciting race!”

Clenor will have to beat My Conquestadory, who overcame a difficult trip to win the Gr 1 Alcibiades in her last race. My Conquestadory will now have to overcome post 14.

My Conquestadory drew the extreme outside post in a full field of 14.

Mark Casse, the trainer of My Conquestadory, just views it as another obstacle to overcome on what he hopes will be a championship season.

“We were wanting to prove she’s the best in North America,” Casse said from Florida where he watched the draw on television. “This is the first step.”

My Conquestadory is 2 for 2 with both wins coming in stakes, the first on turf at Woodbine against males. In the Alcibiades, at Keeneland, she got squeezed at the start then had to check in traffic down the backstretch before finding room and making a strong run to get the victory.

“It can’t get a whole lot worse than it was last time,” Casse said. “Nothing is ever easy in this business.”

My Conquestadory was not the only horse to get saddled with a poor post for this race.

Testa Rossi and Sky Painter, separated by a nose when first and second in the Miss Grillo at Belmont, drew posts 12 and 13, respectively.

Testa Rossi was one of four horses entered by trainer Chad Brown. Ready to Act drew post 11 while Kitten Kaboodle and Granny Mc’s Kitten, drew posts 4 and 5, respectively.

European-based runners Al Thakhira, Vorda, Chriselliam, drew posts 2, 6 and 9, respectively.

Clenor runs in race 9. Check the time on the schedule below.
