Good To Go At Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Today

The first is off at 12h00

Gallops were held this morning and Cape Racing have given the go ahead for the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth racemeeting to proceed today.

With no rain threatening today, the Southern Suburbs venue hosts an attractive card with several Graded or Listed races.

Despite concerns over the slushy track – midweek racing was abandoned after a solitary event – there are top horses engaged and exciting betting opportunities.

Questioning looks the odds-on answer in Race 2 after earning a good figure on debut behind Café Culture two months ago. A

ssuming the Vaughan Marshall yard have their Querari gelding tuned up for his return, he should prove best in this 1200m race.

The same connections (senior jock Bernard Fayd Herbe rides both) can double up with Coastal Commander in the following race.

The son of Lancaster Bomber has twice finished second – on debut to subsequent winner Hluhluwe, then to Zil Moris, both entered with solid chances in the Gr3 World Sports Betting Langerman.

On those occasions, he flashed good speed and was only run out of it late – the 13/10 fave will try to go all the way in this opening Leg of the PA.

Leg 1 of the P6 is closely rated. Gr2 Diadem Stakes hero, Bereave may be the best weighted on OMR’s yet legitimate cases can be made for all his rivals.

Resonate – could prove value today (Pic – Chase Liebenberg)

One that seems priced too big in the ante post market at 14/1 is Resonate.

He’s entitled to make vast improvement at his second start since being off track for six months, and his defeat (when conceding weight) of champion sprinter Gimme a Prince over this course and distance in October 2022 suggests he deserves more respect in Race 4’s market.

6/10, October Morn has the World Sports Betting Irridescence Stakes (listed for 2-year-old fillies) over 1500m at her mercy.

The bay Trippi filly obliterated opposition a month ago – even though the ground was bog-like she dashed away in some style. Prior to that there was honour in a narrow defeat to quality, stable mate Distant Winter and that level of form stands out here, hence the skinny odds.

October Morn – wins if she stays the 1500m (Pic – Chase Liebenberg)

October Morn’s main foes are Flying V and Beach Bomb. The former won in open company on a very soft surface after a slow start so there was considerable merit in that performance. Beach Bomb romped at her second racetrack appearance and is aided by the inside alley – a big advantage on the Winter course when it comes up mud.

The WSB Langerman (G3) for 2-year-old is altogether harder to decipher.

Zil Moris and Hluhluwe have already been mentioned, and Monumental who chased the latter in last time is another live runner.

However, the pick is the beautifully bred Lancaster Bomber ex Snowdance colt, Snow Pilot who finally got his act together just under three weeks ago, after being supported at all five career starts. He races for strong connections (Justin Snaith/Richard Fourie) and is now progressing rapidly, so could be the solution at 7/2.

Brett Crawford saddles Future Girl with a winning chance in the Final Fling Stakes (G3) over 1950m. She has really come into her own during the Winter, showing fighting qualities when closing out her races with verve.

Future Girl – can step up again today (Pic – Chase Liebenberg)

The Futura daughter takes on eight challengers, most of whom she saw off a month ago and whilst she has a trickier weight assignment this time, she may defy Broadway Girl, Love is A Rose, Young Love, Veronica Mars and Gold Poker Game yet again. Luyolo Mxothwa controls the steering.

The P6 concludes with a real brain teaser. Tothemoonandback nearly got there 10 days ago over 1600m at long odds when launching a rail-hugging charge from off the pace. The 6/1 shot will try close the deal in Race 9, though he needs a strong pace to run at (which he didn’t quite get last time) and is again entered in a seemingly pace-less line up cutting back to 1400m.

Top weights Michael Faraday (stayed on in an eye-catching manner) and Max the Otter took on stronger last time in a sprint won by Ragnar Lothbrok.

If not anchored by their 62kg burdens these 16/1 outsiders could outrun their odds, with Bass Racing stable companion, the talented and consistent Lunch Money a clear and obvious threat from draw 2 as the 17/10 favourite.

The first race is off at 12h00.
