Gold Rush – Seeking The Right One!

28 January 2023 - save the date!

Last weekend’s eyecatching Cape Racing Ready To Run Stakes winner Seeking The One has played himself into serious contention for the R7,5 million CRS Gold Rush to be run over 1600m on WSB Cape Met day, 28 January 2023.

The old racing adage of ‘if you don’t have a ticket, you don’t have a chance’ holds true for the exciting Gold Rush concept, which is based on the same principle as The Everest in Australia.

The Gold Rush hosts 16 ticketholders (prospectors) who are racing for the massive stake and is open to graduates of the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Prospectors will be sizing up their options to either take a chance if they have a competitive runner, or negotiate outright purchases, partnership deals or lease deals in the countdown to Met day.

Trained by Brett Crawford, Seeking The One produced a scintillating turn of foot to win the R600 000 contest on Sunday from a testing, but clearly rather lucky, 13 draw.

Lois Mxothwa is all smiles as Seeking The One is led in by the Crawford team and connections (Pic – Chase Liebenberg)

His courageous effort has seen him leapfrog from 17th position on the Gold Rush log, to number 4, much to the delight of his owners Paul Barrett, Jacques Chowles, Ross Kieswetter, Ricky Sewgoolam, Grant Knowles, and Mesdames Gwen MacGregor and Brenda Moody.

A R200 000 Cape Premier graduate bred by Klawervlei Stud, the winner is a son of Equus champion What A Winter (Western Winter) out of the three-time winning Count Dubois mare, Schism.

A reminder that the log below is for information only has no bearing on the final field.
