Gold Rush Countdown

16 slotholders hold key to the treasure

The innovative R7,5 million Gold Rush will be run over 1600m on Cape Met day, 28 January 2023, and is based on the same principle as The Everest in Australia.

The Gold Rush offers 16 ticketholders (prospectors) the opportunity to race for the massive stake and is open to graduates of the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

With the recent closure of Cape Thoroughbred Sales, Cape Racing’s newly established sales department have taken over the concept and the race.

The Gold Rush is not limited to the sixteen Prospectors, but to anybody who bought a horse at the 2021 Premier Sale.

The 16 Prospectors for Gold Rush 1 are:

  • David Abery
  • Central Route Trading
  • Chris van Niekerk and Bernard Kantor
  • Suzette and Basie Viljoen
  • Ridgemont Highlands Stud
  • Hollywood Bets
  • Pieter Graaff and Ken Truter
  • Maine Chance Farms
  • Bass Racing and Ian Longmore
  • Rikesh Sewgoolam
  • Drakenstein Stud
  • Laurence Wernars
  • Crawford Racing
  • Klawervlei Stud
  • Sandy Arundel
  • Playgate SA

In summary, if you acquired a promising youngster, the Prospectors may be knocking at  your door to negotiate, either for an outright purchase, or a partnership deal.

The log is for information purposes only and has no bearing on the final field race.

The race is owned by the 16 slot holders, who will be looking to be including their own horse, or even look to do a deal with the owners of the horses on the log.
