Maine Chance Farms’ stallion Querari had another good result when his four-year-old daughter Marigold Hotel won the Dennis Drier Gr3 Poinsettia Stakes at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
In the process, Marigold Hotel became the 32nd stakes winner for her Gr1 winning sire.
Trained by Sean Tarry, Marigold Hotel was sent off 18-10 tote favourite for the R200 000 Poinsettia and duly lived up to her billing.
Under a finely judged ride from the rampant Richard Fourie, Marigold Hotel appeared beaten close home but fought back valiantly under Fourie to land the feature by a long head.
In landing Sunday’s sprint for fillies and mares, Marigold Hotel accounted for multiple graded stakes winner Ameena, herself a daughter of Querari’s half-brother Quasillo.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Marigold Hotel has now won five of 21 starts for earnings of more than R500 000 with the talented filly having finished third in the Gr1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes prior to her Poinsettia Stakes triumph.
Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Indira, Marigold Hotel was an R100 000 buy from the 2020 National Yearling Sale.
She is one of a growing number of graded stakes-winning daughters of Querari, with this list headed by Gr1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon. Other high-class daughters of Querari include such graded stakes winners as Cockney Pride, Homely Girl, Mill Queen, Supreme Quest, and Gobsmacked.
Also broodmare sire of Gr1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas winner Chansonette, Querari had yearlings make up to R900 000 at this year’s National Yearling Sale.
