Laird says Go for Deputy

Leading trainer has high regard for Go Deputy

Deputy Days! The winning Pessoa team after the outstanding Michaelmas Handicap victory

Lammerskraal stallion Go Deputy continues to boot home the winners and his consistent daughter Music Pass put it all together in fine style when winning the ninth race at Clairwood yesterday.

Owned by Barry Ansell and trained by Alastair Gordon, the 4yo filly showed great resolution on the heavy going by powering on under Kevin Shea to win the 1600m race.

Bred by Lammerskraal out of the four-time winning Western Winter mare Full Card, Music Pass cost R100 000 at the National Yearling Sale, and surpassed her purchase price when winning here.

She has earned at 7 of her 9 outings and looks set to win many more as a lightly-raced attractive filly with scope.

Her sire has hit the headlines in recent weeks with the outstanding win by Alec Laird’s grey flyer Pessoa in the Listed Michaelmas at the same track a week ago.

Trainer Alec Laird confirmed this week that Pessoa will be aimed at The Victory Moon at Turffontein on 16 November, where he is set to carry a handy galloping weight of 51kgs. Laird said that this race would  provide a good indicator of his chances in the Summer Cup.

Laird was full of praise for a horse he obviously has a huge soft spot for:

“ Pessoa has a lovely nature and he is reasonably sound. But he tries his heart out every time he goes racing. He gets a sore back, but this has responded well to treatment.  He has grown into a big sort and like most Go Deputy off- spring is quite a substantial horse,” he said.

Alec Laird continued by saying that the Go Deputy babies had caught his eye at the sales:

“ They are attractive specimens. I have another 4 year old, a filly, Crimson Fire that has done well lately to win 2 races and ran a second on Sunday. We have three more from the next crop, 3 yo’s now of which only one has raced so far. Full Charge ran a promising third on debut. The other two are not far from their first outing but although good looking, they are laid back and need a race to shake them up. It seems most Go Deputy produce are not early precocious sorts,” he added.

Like many things in this life, the Go Deputy produce just get better with age!
