Stable Still Hot

Greyville 10th May: The best bet on the card for many on Sunday afternoon was MAMBO MIME in the opening maiden juvenile plate over 1600m (turf) and the son of Mambo In Seattle didn’t let down his supporters. Allowed to ease out to 14/10 from evens at the track as money came for the Charles Laird trained TEAM GUYS, Dean Kannemeyer’s charge raced in midfield early on. He quickened best of all at the top of the straight, and despite racing very green, he got up late to score by a half.
In terms of distance, the easiest victory on the eight race program was recorded by MAYBE YES in the conditions plate (turf) over 1400m. Well supported on course into 3/1 from 6’s, the daughter of Tiger Ridge ran on stoutly at the business end of the race and won with authority by four.
The non-black type Highland Night Cup over 2400m (turf) topped the bill and here the stable of Dean Kannemeyer were again on the mark when the fancied SOLID SPEED registered his fourth career victory from just eight starts. Sent off a joint favourite at 4/1, the 4yo Dynasty gelding was always handy. He was ridden to lead as they approached the 200m marker and comfortably accounted for the original favourite AKII BUA by two.
Titbits
Third placed GUEST EL GRANDE was finishing best of all when only beaten a neck in the MR70 Handicap over 1600m.

Easy For St Tropez

Fairview 10th May: The highlight in Port Elizabeth on Sunday was the Gr3 East Cape Derby over 2400m and here we saw a smart performance from the favourite ST TROPEZ. Backed into the red at the track, Joey Ramsden’s charge raced in midfield for most of the journey. Once given rein though, he cut through the field like a knife, and won with plenty in hand by two and a quarter.
The supporting act was the listed Dahlia Plate for 2yo’s over 1200m and another smart performance was to be had here when the highly regarded JUAN TWO THREE landed the spoils. Soon up handy in what was always a very tightly bunched field early on, Alan Greeff’s charge took up the running going through the 400m and easily accounted for the recent East Cape Nursery winner CAPTAIN SWAROVSKI by three and a quarter.
There were six races run over 1200m in total and the fastest of these was the Pinnacle Stakes won by UNANNOUNCED. On leaving the stalls it was his stable companion THE WEST IS WIDE who elected to make the running whilst the Snitzel gelding raced close up in third. He put his head in front as they approached the 100m pole and went on to score comfortably by a length and a quarter.
Titbits
The newcomer CUP CAKE (5/2 2ndfav) ran on well from midfield when winning the fillies maiden plate over 1200m going away by three.
RED BARREL extended his current winning sequence to five when comfortably accounting for nine rivals in the pinnacle stakes over 1600m.

Out In A Flash

Kenilworth 12th May: Three of the eight races on Tuesday were run over 1400m and the fastest of these was the maiden plate won by LAST TIGER. Backed into second favourite at the track, Dean Kannemeyer’s charge was soon up handy. He was ridden to lead as they approached the 400m marker and went on to win with plenty in hand by two and a quarter.
There were also three races run over 1200m and fastest against the clock here was SHAMSIYA in the MR68 Handicap. Out of the pens in a flash, the daughter of Western Winter was very quickly four lengths clear. She kept up a healthy gallop throughout and although the pack headed by DAZZLING DANCER were closing in late, she still had a length and a quarter to spare at the wire. Running on from the rear in this race, THREE BLUE CRANES (beaten 2 lengths) was finishing best of all.
Another to win well from the front on this card was NORTHERN CORNER in the opening maiden juvenile plate over 1200m. Well supported on course into 7/2 from 6/1, the son of Noordhoek Flyer led by just a length for most of the journey. He quickened well when given rein and won without any anxious moments by two and a quarter.
Titbits
JAY JAY’S WILD ran on well from the rear when only beaten a neck in the MR79 Handicap over 1400m.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
