Gimme’s Good Sons In The News

Yulong set stud fee of Daily News winner

Two multiple Gr1 winning sons of Varsfontein sire Gimmethegreenlight were in the news recently.

A bridesmaid of the 2018 SA Triple Crown, where he finished runner-up in all three legs, Surcharge won six of eleven races here, including the Gr1 Daily News 2000 for trainer Stuart Pettigrew.

After a stint in Dubai, he relocated to Australia where he raced under the name Yulong Prince and was trained by Chris Waller.

His victory in the 2020 Gr1 Kennedy Cantala, during Melbourne Cup week, was very special as it marked the first Australian Gr1 success for Yulong owner Mr Yuesheng Zhang.

This week it was confirmed that he is Yulong’s fourth new addition to their stallion roster and will stand his first season at A$9 900 (ZAR 110 000).

Saturday’s 4Racing Gr1 Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Got The Greenlight is another multiple Gr1 winning son of Gimmethegreenlight making a name for himself.

He beat yet another smart son of Gimmethegreenlight in Second Base to win the big race on Champions Day, and is now favourite for the Vodacom Durban July.

Their sire, an Australian-bred son of Vinery Stud shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo) sold as a Magic Millions weanling to Hassen Adams from the draft of Vinery Stud.

The 2012  L’Ormarins Queens Plate winner as a 3yo, Gimmethegreenlight is currently South Africa’s Leading Sire by stakes, with nine stakes winners to his credit  this term.

He also sired the recent National Yearling Sales topper.

Got The Greenlight’s dam Command Chi (Commands), a grand-daughter of four-time Gr1 winner Giovana (Blues Traveller), was sold to James Bester as a yearling from the draft of Yallambee Stud at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale before being exported.

A winner of eight races, including Gr1’s  at  two, three and four, Got The Greenlight is now well established as an attractive future stud prospect.
