Varsfontein stallion Gimmethegreenlight produced the fireworks again at Fairview on Friday when the son of More Than Ready’s past East Cape Champion 3yo daughter Beataboutthebush produced a flying finish to get up and win the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes for the second consecutive year.
The flying filly always leaves things very late and is not a punting prospect for the faint of heart!

Ridden by Greg Cheyne, the Alan Greeff-trained 4yo was the SP top-rated runner and got up in the final stride to beat the improved again Smokey Affair (55-1) by a nose in a time of 98,52 secs.
Maverick Girl was 1,75 lengths away in third, with Red Granite running fourth.
Beataboutthebush, a half sister to former Gr3 East Cape Derby winner True Master, was a R300 000 buy from the 2015 National Two Year Old Sale.
Bred by Varsfontein, she is a first crop daughter of Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) out of the seven-time winner Bushra (Badger Land).
Beataboutthebush has won 8 races with 9 places (with 6 seconds!) from 19 starts for stakes of R689 100.
Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed a terrific season and he has representatives in three Gr1’s on Super Saturday.

Varsfontein-bred Surcharge beat subsequent Gr1 Vodacom Durban July winner Do It Again when landing the recent Gr1 Daily News 2000 and runs in the Gr1 Champion Stakes.
The former Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner’s progeny dominated the finish to the recent Gr2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, with his sons finishing 1-3-4 in the R600 000 feature. Golden Horseshoe fourth placed Crown Guardian runs in the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes. Gimme’s daughter Gimme A Brake Nate runs in the Gr1 Thekwini Stakes.
Gimmethegreenlight has 11 lots on the National 2yo Sale on 16 and 17 August.
