Dschingis Secret produced a thirteenth victory for German-trained horses out of the last seventeen runnings of the Gr3 Italian St. Leger when the Markus Klug-trained 3yo Soldier Hollow colt crossed the line 7 lengths clear of the field at San Siro on Saturday.

Although untried over 2800m, Dschingis Secret franked his German Derby form when powering away from his rivals under jockey Martin Seidl, landing the 64,900 Euro Group 3 contest by seven lengths from Troublemaker in a time of 3:01.20. Third was another German raider in Berghain, with 2014 Italian St Leger winner, Rock Of Romance, making up the quartet.

There were high hopes for the South African-bred Tellina, who was coming off an excellent second place finish in last month’s German St Leger, but the 7yo Silvano gelding appeared unable to make an impression, crossing the line in sixth.
