Tamaanee is favourite for today’s Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes.

First run as the Gerald Rosenberg Handicap at Newmarket in 1992, the conditions of this feature were later changed to weight-for-age and in 1999 the race was moved to Turffontein to form part of Champions Day.

The race is named after Gerald Rosenberg, who enjoyed a lifelong interest in racing.

He first took out his colours in 1946 and his major successes were with Young England (1988 Cape Guineas for Peter Kannemeyer ) and Proud Pilgrim (1988 Gold Bowl).

Rosenberg served in many roles as a racing administrator, first as a Steward of the Rand Turf Club (1980-1985), Chairman of the Transvaal Owners and Trainers’ Association (1984-1986), Steward of the Transvaal local executive of the Jockey Club (now the National Horseracing Authority, 1984-1997), Steward of Turffontein Racing Club and a Jockey Club head executive steward (1990-1998).
