Gavin Lerena Gets Seven For Interference

Given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Friday, 06 December 2024, Jockey Gavin Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

The particulars being that as the rider of KOMMETJIE STORM, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MIDNIGHT FUSION (Calvin Habib) when he shifted out at the 300m, in Race 5 at Turffontein Racecourse on Friday, 15 November 2024.

Jockey G Lerena pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the evidence, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven days.

Jockey Lerena was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
