Gauteng Classic Crop Step Out

Long road begins to SA Triple Crown and SA Tiara

While the Gr1 Cape Derby in its new slot of 22 February will maintain the interest down South as the sun sets on the Cape summer season, the focus turns to the Highveld on Saturday.

The fields for the Gauteng Guineas and Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas were finalised on Monday morning.

The Gr2 contests are the opening legs of the Triple Crown, and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara respectively.

Sean Tarry has three strong runners in the colt’s contest. Gr2 Dingaans winner Shango, 2yo Gr1winner Eden Roc, and fast-improving Ikigai will all have their supporters.

Mike de Kock has accepted with Frosted Gold, who was runner-up to Shango in the Dingaans.

Paul Peter’s undefeated Summer Pudding will attract a lot of attention in the Fillies race.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
