Riding Master Moves On

Fresh start for SAJA instructor

Gary Waterston

Riding master Gary Waterston

Gary Waterston, riding master at the Johannesburg base of the SA Jockey Academy, has resigned his post to accept a new challenge in Korea.

Gary resigned on Monday, 22 August 2016 and is due to start his new job as riding master at the Korean Racing Authority (KRA) at the beginning of October.

Speaking to us from Johannesburg earlier today, Gary confirmed that he will be replacing Robert Moore at the KRA and will be focusing on bringing along first year apprentices.

His immediate plans are to complete his current duties and obligations, before heading abroad.

It is a completely fresh start for Gary, who has not even visited the country before and he says he is looking forward to starting this new chapter of his career.  “I am extremely grateful to Mrs Mary Slack and Mrs McKenzie who originally gave me the opportunity to take up the position in Johannesburg.  They have always taken a keen interest in the Johannesburg Academy and I am thankful to have their blessing in accepting the new job.”

We wish Gary all the best and every success in his new venture.
