Gareth Van Zyl’s Feature 1-2

Favourite stamps her authority in good style

Dual Gr2 winner She’s A Keeper got back into the number 1 box with a fluent and popular victory to score in the R150 000 KRA Listed East Coast Cup at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

In a unique move to use a Gr1 as a stepping to a Listed contest, after her fair effort behind Princess Calla in the HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein on 23 April, trainer Gareth van Zyl crowned a great race as saddled the first two home in the afternoon’s support feature.

After La Luvia had carted them along at a muddling pace, Anton Marcus produced She’s A Keeper with a characteristic turn of foot at the 350m.

The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight scythed through her field and went away powerfully to beat stablemate Princess Anastasia (33-1) by 1,20 lengths in a time of 124,05 secs.

Dean Kannemeyer would have been pleased with the showing of third-placed Silver Maria (10-1) after an eighteen week break.

Jockey Anton Marcus said that She’s A Keeper was the class in the race but that she was still carrying the pudding.

“A lot of effort has gone into this filly. Gareth deserves an accolade for getting her ready. And for those that argue that the weight differentials are relative, I don’t agree. We carried 61,5kgs – I’d prefer 60kgs – and with the weights then dropping at the base accordingly.

The winner was bred by the Missing U Syndicate and is a daughter of champion sire Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) out of the Trippi mare, Gold Trip.

She’s A Keeper has won 7 races with 2 places from 14 starts and stakes of R700 925.

Hollywoodbets Durban July entry Lyrical Dance failed to show and finished out of the money and 5,55 lengths off the winner.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
