Time Flies!

Proudly South African Pepper

Things are gearing down locally with the final two  Singapore meetings of the year taking place this weekend. Thereafter we have a two week racing break and return on New Year’s Day with some quality racing, writes Gareth Pepper.

As I pen this looking out into the clear blue skies that I am glad to report are haze free here in Singapore, I cannot believe my two week break has come and gone so rapidly.

What a trip it was.

Happy snap – Claudia and Naldo’ s nuptials

Some time spent with Family and friends was just awesome and although I probably need a holiday from the holiday it was most definitely worth it. I managed to attend racing at Kenilworth last wednesday and I got to meet up and see many a familiar face.

It was one of the highlights of the trip and i forgot just how great racing can be on a Wednesday there. I just wish the masses could see it the way the regulars do. In a perfect world, I would race there every race day in Summer.

It would be remiss of me to mention all of those that made my trip so special and memorable with fear of leaving someone out, but I do want to mention a very special Couple. I was privileged enough to attend the Wedding of my dear friends Naldo and Claudia this past Saturday.

Naldo and I attended the same school for many a year and he wed the love of his life .

It was the first time in a very long time that there were so many of us “friends” in the same place at once. I managed to catch the garter (to the joy of my mother who feels it is time i settled down and provided her with some grand children!) and we duly celebrated late into the night and I am just glad I made it to the airport on time.

The wedding was another highlight of the trip and I am happy to report that Mr and Mrs Dos Reis will be spending a day with me enroute back to SA in two weeks time. I wish them many years of happiness together.

I chatted to Andrew Bon while at home – watch the movie below;

I cannot believe we are at the end of the year already, it has flown bye, just like my holiday, and on reflection I am still very happy with my decision to take up my position here. As amazing as it was coming home, I feel that I need to continue to test myself.

One thing is for sure, I am proudly South African and it will always be home, but I still have so much I want to achieve and I really do look forward to what the future does hold for me.

Next week, I will review the season and add some”spice” with my take on some Pepper Awards from the season past.

Till next time.

The sad reality is that no matter who did what wrong, the Peter saga has been a scar on the SA horseracing landscape for far too long and besides the old favourite of justice delayed, it has lingered lengths ahead of KZN star Royal Victory’s big win in the 2023 renewal of the Highveld showpiece
