I have been home for a good few days now from Singapore and all I can say is I really missed beautiful South Africa.
One thing I have not managed to escape is the heat. I spent a few days with my darling mother Barbara in Hoedspruit and nothing beats Mom’s home cooked food. That coupled with the beautiful surrounds of the African bush really helped me relax and unwind
I spent last weekend in Joburg and sadly did not make it to the races on Saturday but instead chose to watch it at my Dad’s surrounded by friends and family.
I must commend the whole Woodruff Team, what an effort. And what a great ride by both Gavin and Sean in the final stages. Both gentleman are my friends so I could not bare to watch the tv but I am told by a few people the right decision was made.
I am writing this looking over the V&A Waterfront and I must tell you, it does bring a few years to my eyes to be back in my favourite city in the world.
I’d like to believe the Cape showed off for my return!
I am blessed to have a staunch and diverse friend base and catching up with everyone has just been fantastic.
One of my oldest and dearest friends got engaged last week and I sadly missed it.
Corne Orffer and I have known each other since he was an apprentice in Johannesburg and I was 9 years old running around Randjesfontein. It was fantastic to meet his lovely partner Lindsay on arrival .
Corne is one of the most underrated riders around and I am so happy he and Brett have forged such a good association.
Apart from that I am sure many people will attest to the fact that Corne is one of the few people who will go above and beyond for his friends and he deserves all the happiness in the world – so cheers to you two and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
After a wedding on Saturday I head back to Singapore – this break has just flown by!
I am very sad to say it doesn’t look like I’ll be back in SA for a long time. I’m going to miss this beautiful country but I will continue to follow the racing with great interest and one things for sure – it will always be home for me.
