Goodbye Debbie Hawkins

Pat Shaw in great form

Patrick Shaw

Pat Shaw –

Pat Shaw continued his dominance of not only the stayers ranks here in Singapore, but of the feature races too,  writes Gareth Pepper.

Perfect P, an Argentinian bred took out the Group 3 New Year Cup on 1 January and bolstered the Shaw attack towards bigger and better races later in the year.

The Derby is a likely propspect for him and he broke the course record by just under two seconds.

I am glad Nuresh Juglall managed to take out a deserved feature after finishing second in last year’s renewal.

At the time of writing, Nuresh Is at the hospital after taking a nasty fall in trial 4 on Tuesday and although walking away from the incident, is being checked out by doctors. Let’s hope all is ok with him.

This past Sunday saw another Shaw representative put in a top class performance.

His name is Time Odyssey and he absolutely demolished a field of our better stayers by 6 lengths.

Corey Brown has ridden him recently and he boasts 3 wins and a 5th from 4 rides on the son of Jet Master.

Incidentally, he is a half brother to Tellina, was bred by Maine Chance Farms and was purchased at the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in 2013 for R1,6 million. He too looks a good staying prospect for 2016 and could be headed to the Derby.

Debie Hawkins

Debbie Hawkins

It is a sad week here in Singapore as Debbie Hawkins ends her time at the Turf Club on Friday.

As we became accustomed to back home, she did an outstanding job.

I will always be grateful for the help and advice Debbie gave me not only when I arrived but throughout the last year. As I have mentioned, moving countries is tough and adapting to the culture was not easy for me.

Debbie was loved by all the owners and was the go- to Lady for any problems and in typical Debs style, it was sorted out quickly, efficiently and without hassle.

I wish her well in her future endeavours and feel it is a very sad loss for  the Singapore Turf Club. I have no doubt she will excel in whatever she takes on next and not only will racedays, but trials on a Tuesday and Thursday morning, not be the same without her.

Till next time.
