Bali is absolutely beautiful

Corey Brown and his happy family

Corey Brown and his happy family

While I was working on my tan in Bali and indulging in a few cold ones, Corey Brown was riding at the top of his game on Friday. The likeable man who seems to always have a smile on his face rode four winners on Friday night, followed by a trip to Doomben and back in time to ride another on Sunday, writes Gareth Pepper.

Having ridden with distinction around the world including Hong Kong, Singapore and his home country of Australia, Brown boasts over 30 Gr1 victories including the Melbourne Cup aboard Shocking in 2009.

He is another world-class jockey plying his trade here and again shows how deep the talent pools are in Singapore.

I have had the pleasure of meeting his lovely family, his wife Kylie and three daughters Maddie, Charlie and Hollie. They really are down to earth and lovely to mix with.

Weekender

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sarah is back in town and we were very lucky to be able to pop over to Bali for the weekend.

What a beautiful place. We stayed in Canggu, on the western side of the island and, am I impressed at the beautiful ocean and setting.

We got to surf, well Sarah did – I tried and failed dismally, resembling a new born giraffe stuck in a mud pool.

The abundance of fresh seafood, cold beers and extremely friendly and hospitable locals made for a wonderful break. It was so affordable and was wonderful to explore an island that is a must for any traveller that makes their way to Asia. It comes highly reccommended.

The only problem was that it was just too short. But it again shows the bonus of living in Singapore with the close proximity of all of these amazing countries, some as close as an hour flight away.

No Features

War Affair 300314This weekend’s racing looks to be competitive, but there are no feature races. A high class field of speedsters has been assembled for Friday’s main even, an open 1000m on the Poly and Sunday’s Open 2000m presents another high class field.

The excitement is starting to build for the next leg of the 4yo series.

War Affair will hopefully be out to again assert his dominance, but another interesting runner may be Affleck who will run in an open Mile. The star 3yo, who is reportedly doing extremely well, is crying out for further and I cannot wait to see him step up to 2000m.

No Sweat

My father Brett arrives on Friday and I can’t wait to show him around and introduce him to the friends and racing personalities here.

Let’s hope he can handle the heat, or else he will be sweating like he was back at school waiting for his report card again!

Till next time.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
