Friday – Golden Memories Of Arkle

Gr1 Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday

Widely considered the greatest chaser of all-time, Arkle was a three-time Gold Cup winner at Cheltenham and known by the nickname ‘Himself’.

On Friday, the Boodles Gr1 Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase is run at 17h30 on Day 4 of the festival that has captivated us since Tuesday.

Arkle was so good, handicappers in Ireland had to change the rules – applying one when he raced and another when he didn’t.

When he died, the famous jockey Lord Oaksey wrote: “Now he is gone we must search for others to warm our blood on winters afternoons, to fill the stands and set the crowds on fire.
