Former Markus Jooste Racer’s Frankel Milestone

Cyprus based stallion breaks ice

The well-bred Straight Shooter (Frankel-Straight Lass, by Machiavellian) took the honour overnight of becoming the first son of his Champion Sire Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) to sire his own winner.

The achievement occurred when the Dan Haida-trained First Shoot (Frankel-Santa Katerina, by Takkaatamm) scored by a length and a half in Cyprus.

Retired to stud after his lone start, winning by seven lengths for Champion Trainer Andre Fabre at Saint-Cloud over 1600m, the former Markus Jooste-owned Straight Shooter was secured to stand at Hadjiyiannis Stud on the Mediterranean island.

A half-brother to Gr1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Naaqoos (Oasis Dream), Straight Shooter was sold in a private deal brokered by Oliver St Lawrence to successful Cypriot owner-breeders Petros Pantelides and Nicholas Hadjiyiannis, where the stunning chestnut has largely covered the stud’s own mares.

“We strongly believe Straight Shooter will upgrade the racing industry in Cyprus, and I would like to thank Mr Hadjiyiannis for his contribution to buying this horse, and also Oliver St Lawrence – nothing would have been possible without him,” stated Pantelides after securing the son of Frankel for stud duties.
