Cape Raider Grabs Fairview Feature Spoils

Well judged ride by Anthony Andrews

The lightly raced Vikram, coming off a thirteen week break and having his fourth consecutive run at a different racetrack, finished too strongly for his opposition to clinch top honours in the R110 000 Founders Trophy at Fairview on Friday.

The only raider in the eleven horse field, Vikram overcame a wide draw under Anthony Andrews in the non black-type mile feature to come from some lengths off the pace and nab the free running former Gauteng-based Bold Viking in the shadow of the post to win by a neck in a time of 97,54 secs.

Union Jack maintained his consistent form to run third.

The Andre-Nel trained Vikram started a weak 5-1 favourite in an open race.

Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, he is a son of Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) out of the four-time winning Western Winter mare, Vermillion.

Vikram cost R675 000 on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale and took his stakes tally to R190 500 with his second win from nine starts. He has been consistent, having run six places.

Richard Fourie and Yvette Bremner, and the consistent form of Greg Cheyne and Alan Greeff, took the honours on the day with a double apiece.

The next Fairview racemeeting is on the polytrack on Monday 2 September.
