After no local racing yesterday, Turffontein Racecourse plays host to an eight-race programme on the Standside course this afternoon.

The first is due off at 12h20 with the lucky last set for 16h15.

After three top-notch winners at the Vaal on Tuesday, Gavin Lerena could well pay to follow with all of his six rides today representing some good value.

The 2021 Hollywoodbets Durban July winning rider has been edging back to his best form and his Tuesday treble showed great character after a nasty fall following his winning the first race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.

Elsewhere on the card, Cicadidae from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable takes her place in Race 3. She produced a decent debut effort over 1000m on the Inside course.

She was green in running, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Querari would have gained from the experience and will love the extra distance on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

The combination of Barend Botes and Yolandie Vosloo send out Ballroom Bliss in the lucky last.

She has shown good signs of a form return in her last two starts. She stayed on when third over 1800m on the Inside course last time.

The 5yo mare has dropped to a competitive rating and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with in this field.
