First 2yo Winner Was From Black Swan’s Premier Draft

From the calcium rich climes of Robertson

Peter de Beyer’s boutique breeding operation Black Swan Stud offers a quality quartet at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale on 25 January.

Black Swan is situated in the calcium rich climes of Robertson in the Western Cape.

The farm is on magnificent land that produces superior bone strength in our thoroughbreds, and astute matings over the years have combined to make it a successful quarter century for the man who started with a solitary mare in 1998.

Black Swan proudly holds the distinction of breeding the first 2yo winner of the 2023-2024 season, when Canford Cliff daughter Almond Sea justified favouritism to win well. She was also sold on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale!

Backed down to start a 15-10 tote favourite, the Tony Peter trained Almond Sea more than lived up to expectations as she romped home to make all and win the 4Racing Welcomes You To The Betway Summer Cup Maiden Juvenile Plate (800m) by five and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Peter de Beyer, Almond Sea is out of the Dupont mare Sylvie.

Here are thoughts from the horse’s mouth on their quartet:

Lot 22. Elusive Fort ex Goldandsilver. Filly.

Half Sister to GoldenTatjana (Winner Juvenile Trippi Stakes and Farm sales race) Half-sister to Treasure Hunt (4wins). Mare 100% winners to runners.

Very speedy female line including Gr3 winners Golden Shina and Golden Braids.

By top sire Elusive Fort. (Siren’s call, Lauderdale, Elusive Heart, Freedom Charter etc)

This is a very pretty,  eye catching filly who screams quality. She has good strong quarters and a nice strong shoulder.

She walks beautifully and has a great overstep. Perfectly proportioned, she is very classy with good conformation.

Lot 51: Erupt ex Omaticaya. Colt

Dam a listed race winner by Silvano. Grand dam a 3-time winning sister to Gr3 winner Jet Supreme.

A good strong colt, very much in the Dubawi mould, with short strong cannons, very strong quarters and a beautiful head.

He has a very balanced athletic walk and looks classy. Correct.

Lot 86: Elusive Fort ex Step Out. Colt

Dam a winning Silvano mare from a very strong female line. Dam a half-sister to Gr2 winner Solid Speed and from the family of Gr1 winner Lady in Black and Gr2 winner Nexus. (Both by Dynasty so the Elusive Fort cross should be effective).

By top sire Elusive Fort (Kommetdieding, Catch Twentytwo, Out of Your League etc)

An outstanding looking, strong colt with a classic look about him. Perfectly proportioned and walks purposefully.

He has a lovely temperament and really fills the eye. He has good conformation and feet. A well-balanced colt who is very correct. Certainly, one to note.

Lot 123: Soqrat ex Call of the Hunt. Filly

Dam a winner, and half-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Hunting Tower. Family of Gr3 winner Crimson King and King Regent, both by Dynasty.

Dam 2 winners from 3 runners so far.

An elegant, athletic filly who stands over ground and has a good shoulder and strong quarter.

Walks well, really covers the ground and is correct. She looks racy.
