SA Juvenile Season Opens

Limestone Thoroughbred Trust-bred filly wins well

South African racing’s first juvenile contest of the 2021/22 season was won by a daughter of Maine Chance Farms stallion Querari, our leading Sire of 2yo’s in 2018-2019.

Run as the opening event on the Turffontein Saturday card headlined by the Gr3 Fillies Mile,  the 800m dash was won by Paul Peter’s Fennec Fox, who was up with the speed under Warren Kennedy for much of the race.

Bred by Limestone Thoroughbred Trust, Fennec Fox was sent off a 4-1 shot and clocked 46,25 secs when beating her lesser fancied stablemate Cool Winter by just under a length.

Roy Magner’s Emirate Gina, who looks bred for much further, ran a cracker for third, with another Querari daughter in Vasilikos a length further back in fourth.

Out of the Trippi mare Miss Wales, Fennec Fox was a R75 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.

By Oasis Dream, the same sire as recently crowned Cartier Champion Native Trail, Querari has four lots on next Saturday’s November Two Year Old Sale.
