With his smart son and sole representative on South African racetracks, Mount Keith, set for a bid at glory in the Grand Heritage at the Vaal on 29 September, Ballydoyle racehorse and a terrific looking sire son of Oratorio, Fencing Master is set for a big season at Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud.
The super quick Mount Keith ran a terrific prep when winning over 1450m at Turffontein last Saturday, and could take his chances for trainer Ashley Fortune in South Africa’s biggest race in pure numbers.
His sire Fencing Master is reported in the pink of health and jumping out of his skin by David Hepburn-Brown.
Fencing Master is by Danehill stallion Oratorio out of a Gr1 winning mare. He was famously narrowly beaten in the European Championship Class Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes for Juveniles at Newmarket by a neck after a super effort in a difficult run round traffic.
He initially stood in Zimbabwe as a result of his owner’s efforts to help the industry in that country. The results have included imported SA winners and Feature Winners back in Zimbabwe.
The move to the Cape has elicited plenty of interest, with the well-bred Fencing Master representing great value at a R10 000 live foal fee.
Breeders may consider using this high-class international athlete with proven Southern African results – he has produced both speed and stamina!
His first SA crop are currently yearlings.
